Possible Outcomes
This genotype analysis will indicate whether or not you have the DQB1*06:02 allele that is associated with an increased risk of narcolepsy.
A positive result indicates that the HLA-DQB1*06:02 has been detected. A positive result includes both heterozygotes (who carry one copy of the DQB1*06:02 allele) and homozygotes (who carry two copies of the DQB1*06:02 allele). A positive result indicates an increased risk of narcolepsy and is supportive of a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy. However, this result does not by itself establish a diagnosis.
A negative result indicates that HLA-DQB1*06:02 was not detected. This means that there is no increased risk of narcolepsy and a diagnosis of narcolepsy is less likely. However, this result does not eliminate a narcolepsy diagnosis.
